Nothing causes a mother more anguish than the loss of a kid; moms in the animal kingdom are overprotective, just like human women are. When one of her babies passed away, Bettie the dog had a painful experience. After spending hours trying to save him, she gave up and let him go. According to her owner, the miserable dog went to bury the dead puppy's body by herself; a heartbreaking moment was caught on camera.
Lenny Rose Ellema, the dog's owner, can be seen excavating a trench and burying her deceased pet, completely encasing her body. Bettie was four years old at the time the film was made and released in September 2020.
Diario Sevilla newspaper reported this. Rose from the Philippine province of Pangasinan explained that her four-year-old dog had lost her newborn puppy. Rose's maternal instincts drove her to want to revive the puppy by taking care of him and even recalling how she had experienced the same thing a year earlier when one of her previous puppies died while giving birth.
She was a really special dog, he continued, because her owners had never had to educate her to do that; it just came naturally to her. Bettie was devastated, and the dog can be seen playing with her child and filling the hole with dirt while guarding him even after his death.
It appears that he wished to shield him from the outer world and offer him a sacred burial, which makes this move both touching and terrible. According to some experts, this is something they do instinctively to keep predators away from the carcass and from putting the entire litter in risk.
